Welcoming Technology with Compassion for India’s Mothers

In a proud moment for maternal healthcare innovation, JioVio Healthcare’s Savemom was awarded the 2020 Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award—a National award that identifies scientific solutions to India’s most critical societal challenges. The award, given by the Anjani Mashelkar Foundation, is an acknowledgment of innovations that are not only technologically viable but also extremely inclusive and impactful at the grassroots level.

An Award Grounded in Intent.

Dedicated to the mother of the great scientist Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, the Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award honors outstanding innovations that are both affordable, accessible, and scalable to improve the quality of life of underprivileged people in India. Since its inception in 2011, the award has honored individuals who have redefined innovation with a spirit of compassion and functional application.

Savemom: Innovation from Rural Life

Savemom stood out in life-saving maternal health programs with a remote monitoring platform for pregnant women in India’s most isolated areas. By integrating wearable technology, IoT devices, and AI-driven risk prediction, Savemom creates a continuous cycle of care from the first trimester through the first 1000 days of life.

The platform provides frontline health workers with real-time access to key information, allows doctors to react in real time, and provides the same quality of care that a city-based health facility can offer to rural women at just INR 1 per day per woman.

A Recognition of Impact

The choice of Savemom as a 2020 award winner positions it among the nation’s most pioneering healthcare solutions. This award recognizes the tireless efforts of the JioVio Healthcare team and highlights the reality that sound innovation is not necessarily expensive; rather, it must be inextricably linked to being human-centric.

The certification, along with Dozee (Turtle Shell Technologies’ multimodal health monitor), is a sign of the growing momentum of India’s innovation economy—where health is no longer a service but a right technology can be made available in an even manner.

A Turning Point within the Savemom Program

To Savemom, this award is more than a trophy; it is validation of much research, fieldwork, and design based on empathy. This award conveys to Governments, Non-governmental organizations, and Healthcare systems that scalable maternal care is achievable, cost-effective, and available to be adopted in each village.
