Savemom is stepping in to provide a creative and approachable answer in a nation where maternal mortality is still shockingly high. Savemom, a smartphone app highlighted by Portal Kota Malang, aims to lower Indonesia’s Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) by educating families and communities about maternal health.

The Challenge: High Maternal Mortality Rates

According to the WHO and SDKI, Indonesia continues to have one of the highest maternal death rates in developing countries. Despite significant progress, meeting global targets such as the MDGs remains difficult. A serious problem is the pervasive lack of information among healthcare practitioners, expectant moms, spouses, and communities, which contributes to preventable maternal fatalities.

The Innovation: Savemom App

Savemom uses mobile technology to put life-saving knowledge directly in people’s hands since it recognises how common smartphones are in Indonesia. Under the tagline “We Care because We Love,” the app offers vital details on:

Malang City, East Java, where Savemom’s pilot program was launched, has a diversified population and comparatively high maternal mortality rates (2–3 fatalities per month). Malang was the perfect area to launch and advertise the app because of its advantageous position and convenient access across districts.

The Impact and Vision

The immediate objective is to teach communities and husbands how to respond responsibly and promptly in pregnancy situations. In the long run, Savemom hopes to significantly lower Maternal Mortality Rates throughout Indonesia by acting as a national model for maternal health education and community first aid interventions.
